Page 50. DUTTON, Melvin O. Pvt. Co. I, 5th Regt. Mustered 27 April 1862,
at age 21. Transferred to Invalid Corps in 1863.

The Minnesota troops were involved in both Indian Wars and the War of the
Rebellion
(Civil War) with numerous campaigns. Melvin O. Dutton is also mentioned in
Rice County,
Minnesota history--Neil, Reverend Edward D. HISTORY OF RICE COUNTY
published by Minnesota Historical Company, Minneapolis: 1882. Page 300.
This publication has more history about the 5th Regiment and the other
Minnesota units under a
chapter entitled War Record and a chapter entitled County Government.

Melvin O. Dutton is also mentioned in a history of Rice and Steele
counties;

Minnesota, stating on the application they were from Trempealeau County,
Wisconsin.
I have found no record of him in Wisconsin.
