Elizabeth Boyd MONTICELLO – Elizabeth Finlayson Boyd, 90, a homemaker and
retired teacher, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002. She is survived by a daughter,
Nancy Boyd Bryant of Tallahassee. The service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at
First United Methodist Church, with burial at Finlayson Cemetery in Ashville.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Beggs Funeral Home,
Monticello Chapel (850-997-5612). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 307, Monticello, FL
32345 or to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
She was born in Quitman, Ga., but spent most of her life on the family farm,
Glendower, in northeast Jefferson County. After a brief teaching career in
Flagler County, she married Fred Allen Boyd in 1938 and returned to Glendower
where she raised her family. She resumed her teaching career in 1961 and
retired from the Jefferson County school system in 1974. She was a graduate
of Florida State College for Women and Florida State University. She was a
member of the First United Methodist Church of Monticello, Delta Kappa Gamma
education honorary, the Tallahassee Town Committee of the National Society of
Colonial Dames of America, the Mignonette Circle of the Monticello Garden
Club and the Kate Dilworth Scott Chapter of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy. Other survivors include two sons, Hines F. Boyd and Congressman
F. Allen Boyd Jr. of Monticello; a sister, Carrie Linn F. Martin of
Tallahassee; and eight grandchildren.
