I had the same problem (twice) .. my machine would just hang up and I
literally had to pull the plug

have 526Mb RAM, 40G HD, 1.1Ghz processor

it depends on what the program is doing. MS does give false "not
responding" messages. I know this to be true from testing..... As I recall,
the 3% mark is where the program seems to hang up, but when I left it alone
it eventually did complete....
