Re:Birth and baptism tags:
UFT-user's bias: I really don't like the idea of "groups" of tags for just
the reasons stated in this discussion. They add unnecessary complexity to
the database structure. Why not let the user choose which tags to print or
use in age calculations? Rather than groups of tags, how about having an
option along the lines of "if no birth tag then use baptism tag." The user
could check or uncheck the choice. To be even more general, the user could
be allowed to specify any tag as a substitute.
My current practice (in UFT which has no tag groups) for cases where I have
baptism information, but no birth information is to enter a birth date as
before the baptism date. i.e baptised 1 OCT 1700, then born would be born
BEF 1 OCT 1700. The source for the birth date is the baptism information. I
also usually include a note with the birth tag saying that it's based on the
baptism date. Technically, the person could have been born and baptised the
same day. You could enter the birth date as BEF 2 OCT 1700 if you
preferred, though that hasn't been my personal practice.
