Hi Bonita,
I haven't seen an answer, so while I'm not quite sure if I'm thinking straight enough today, I'll try. If none of the following makes sense just hit Delete <g>.
Firstly,
I don't know why you can't search by anything but Surname. That one sounds like Tech. Support to me unless someone else has an idea (you are using FTST v1.1, aren't you?)
Secondly,
Provided that you can *sort* by ID#:
Accent simply for *Mother Not Known*. This accent will apply to all persons in all data sets within the Project who's mother is not known. Then set the Picklist filter to *Father Is Known* and only list primary names. Now you should easily be able to see in the Picklist which person's mother is not known in one but is known in the other data sets and mother's ID# in those. Is that something like what you're after?
For missing fathers just reverse the accent and filter.
Or you could have several versions of FTST open side by side with only one, different, data set active in each. Then you could also have different accents and filters in each.
Haven't been able to work out the 'missing spouse' bit though. I believe you'd need a filter
'Marriage tag [P1] = 0 OR
Marriage tag [P2] = 0 END'
or something like that which I don't think is available.
Maybe it would help to set a flag in the messed up data set in TMG with values NY and set it with a LOP filter of
Any Marriage Tag > O-Prin = 0
and refresh the data set in FTST. That way you could filter or accent by that flag. I can't test this to well, since I have only 6 Marriage tags with a missing spouse, whom I know nothing about.
Talking about the slow Picklist, have your tried using fewer columns (e.g. just Name, ID, Father ID and Mother ID)? I can't test if it makes a difference because my data set is only small (1047 persons)

> Ok .. I admit I have not played with FTST much, however, due to some splitting of databases, I lost several marriage events ... or at least the 2nd principal. So, I restored two older versions of my database in an attempt to find the 2nd principal. My problem is that I have a very large database and it is very slow going through name by name ... so I was hoping to either filter or accent so I could more easily tell which is the one I am trying to repair (DB 1).

> So, I was hoping to filter by Mother not know, Father known ... but can I request it for only DB1? .. or does it filter all three? I requested an accent to do the same .. and ALL the mother and father's are accented even if they have both father and mother.

> Also, when I sort, is there anyway to do a second and third sort ... like DB# and name? .. or what does it sort on when it finds a match in the first sort?

Am I asking it to do too much?
