I am the maternal grandson of Lorenz Viktor Schwegler. He was born in
1877. He told my mother, his daughter that he was from Bavaria (Bayern).
His father's name was Heinrich Hermann Schwegler and his mother was
Julianna (?Juliane) Holzheimer. They were married circa 1870. Heinrich
died in Bavaria between 1887 and 1891. The cause of his death was that he
was kicked in the head by his horse. Julianna (Juliane) came to the
United States of America after his death. Lorenz said that his mother was
from Alsace-Lorraine, but cousins of my mother, say that she was born in
Stuttgart circa 1850. She was said to have been a school teacher and
spoke German and French. Heinrich and Julianna's other children all came
to America after Heinrich's death. Some came with friends of the family.
Heinrich is thought to be buried in Bavaria. Their other children were:
Catherine (married someone with the surname of Sparks and settled in
Oregon), Elizabeth (married someone with the surname Lukat and lived in
California (she had a daughter Elsie Lukat Galvin who lived in San
Francisco in the 1960's), Margaretha (nicknamed "Gretchen" who married a
Carl Feusahrens and lived in Washington, D.C. - Carl was a veteran of
World War I and was a baker), and Heinrich (Henry, died by drowning in the
Potomac River in 1900 and is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in
Washington, D.C. with his mother, Julianna). My grandfather, Lorenz
Viktor Schwegler anglicized his name to Lawrence Victor Swegler. He
married Catherine Frances Coughlin in October, 1902. They lived in
Albany, NY, had eight daughters (5 survived childhood: Elsie (1907-1992),
Marion ('Florence", 1909-1975), Frances Edena ("Peggy" 1912-1988), Mildred
(1916-1963), and Virginia (1920 - still living). I am the son of Virginia
Josephine Swegler and Joseph G. Ford, Sr. (1916-1995). If anyone has any
information on the HOLZHEIMER or SCHWEGLER family, and/or the place that
Heinrich Hermann Schwegler, his wife and children were from in Bavaria
(Bayern), please contact me privately by E-Mail. My E-mail address is
<>. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
