This is the German newsgroup, however, I have always thought the name
Waldroff sounded more Russian than German. I was told my grandfather
immigrated to Canada as a child at the turn of the century. He apparently
was taken to a shelter in Cornwall, Ontario, with his 2 siblings.
Eventually, he was taken in by a family in Northfield, Quebec, where he
married and had 6 children. For some unknown reason, my grandmother at
some point after the marriage, changed the name to Waldorf ( this may have
been after the death of my grandfather at age 34 ). My grandfather is
buried in Kazabazua - on the tombstone is the name Waldroff.

I don't know where to even start researching this and I thought perhaps
someone in this newsgroup could offer me some suggestions - even if it is
just to tell me that Waldroff would not be an unusual German name.

Thank you so much.

Karen ( Waldorf) Whiteside
