re: Labes archives
Recently, there was a post on Labes.
The Library of Congress Manuscript division has a report
on emigration records in the Danzig state archives prepared
by Dr.Smolka (around 192x?) as an update to the book by
Marion Dexter Learned (1912, Kraus reprint 1965).
According to Smolka, the Danzig (Gdansk) state archives
had (still has?) under
Abt.408.1 a private depositum Arnold:
Paket III.8 Acta betr.die Erbschaft in Baltimore (James Labes,d.1820),
(1820-1842)
Paket V. 2. Letters of Johann Labes to James Labes (1778)
7. Letter of James Labes, Baltimore,1803 to Johann Labes.
Paket VIII. 4. Letter of James Labes to Carls Wilh.Labes, Baltimore
1814.
