Subject: Are Harvey and Henry .II

Hi Gary;
You made an interesting point of 'perhaps it was preference' for using
Harvey instead of Henry as your name (not interchangeable like John &
Jack).
My mother's great grandfather Harvey Thomas Perkins was married on the
same day as his brother Henry Platt Perkins in the lakeside town of
Lexington, Sanilac County, MI in 1860.
But Harvey's wife died 9 years later; and meanwhile Henry Platt Perkins
and his wife Lucy had returned to New York state to live. In Dec 1870
Harvey T. Perkins remarried in St. Clair County at the foot of Lake Huron,
but the book entry in the St. Clair County marriage record indicates
"Henry T." Perkins married to Martha Carney.
I have documented and suppported that it was in fact Harvey T. Perkins who
married Martha Carney. I did this through the comparison of the brother's
ages entered on the respective marriage documents from 1860 and compared
to the 1870 age entry. It was Harvey T., not Henry P. (Henry & Lucy
returned to Michigan and lived and remained married until their deaths up
in Harbor Beach after 1900.)
But we are at a loss to explain why Harvey would have used his brother's
first name for this event in 1870. Henry and Lucy were still in New York
at the time.
At first I thought it was a simple error of the county clerk writing a
"T" instead of a "P". Thanks.

Normally Henry and Harvey are not interchangeable. If you nevertheless
feel certain that they are one-and-the-same person, then it was probably
a case where someone was named Henry as a child, and later decided he
liked to be called Harvey better, or vice versa. Not because the names
are interchangeable, but because both names begin with the letter H.
