Hello (USA)
Denmark is calling. Who can help us?
We know that we have relatives in the States, and we would like so very
much to find them.
I am quite sure that they don't know that their family in Denmark in
Denmark is looking for them. They might not know at all that they have
family who know about them.
These are the facts:
My father Johann Christian Haar is 91 years old, and he was born in
Haderslev, which was a town in a part of Denmark which Germany took over
in 1864 after a war. Some of the old land was returned in 1920, and then
Haderslev was Danish again.
In 1882 my father's father went to USA together with his brother and
sister. He later returned to Dernmark on the ship "Valparaiso" to
Copenhagen, but his brother stayed in the States. It is his decentens we
would like to find.
His Name was Hans Haar, but he was called John Haar. His daughter's name
was Clara, and she had a little girl who was born around 1924. If she is
still alive she is around 73 years old today. Hans Haar had more
children, and he might have been married twice. (We have pictures af
him, his daughter and granddaughter.)
Clara wrote in the thirties that her father had died.
Hans Haar was Danish, but maybe he was called a German immigrant,
because he came from Slesvig. He might have been around 24 when he
immigrated.
He built houses - one in Rye NY. My father says that Uncle Hans took
part in building the Brooklyn Bridge, but he might be wrong.
Hans Haar was one of 6 children:
Carl, who lived in Odense, Denmark,
Jensine Albertine, who lived in Hamburg, Germany,
Jes, (my grandfather, who according to my father worked some time for
the US railroad, laying railroads across USA.),
Helene, who also went to the States,
Hans, (he might have been a carpenter. He later got a firm with people
who helped him building houses.),
Doris, who lived in Hamburg, Germany. Her daughter Marie died last year
96 years old.).
Some of these names might have been given to decentors.
Their parents where Hans Sørensen Haar, who died in 1907 in Haderslev
and Anne Marie Lautrup Haar, who died in 1892.
Does anyone know anything, or can someone give us an idea as to how we
can find our family?!
Before my father's 90th birthday we tried to locate our family by the
help of the Salvation Army, but they told us that they needed more
information.
My father is the youngest and only living "child".Two of his sisters
were 98 and 95 before they died.
By the way - my father is extreemly well. he is very active, and his
mind is sharp. But it is now we need to do something to give him - and
the relatives "over there" a chance to exchange family-stories.
Please send an e-mail to my daughter at the University of Copenhagen,
her name is Jeanette Haar Larsen, and her address is:
Thank you for your attention!!!
Lena Haar Larsen.
