Denis,
I'm glad to finally be of some help to you after using the resources
you provide .
Unfortunately, the question regarding this marriage strikes close to
the heart of a rather heated debate among those concerned with the
founding date of Ste. Genevieve. Further, there is no definite record
in this are of the above marriage.
However, I will quote from Natalia Belting's " Kaskaskia Under The
French Regime", p.100.
A Joseph Baron was listed as a resident of Nouvelle Chartres, adjacent
to Fort de Chartres, in the 1752 Macarty census of the five area
French communities.
"One of the sons of Jean Baptiste Baron, who was baptized at
Boucherville, Canada, in 1691, and his wife, Marie Catherine,
baptized in 1703. Marie Catherine bore Jean Baptiste Baron three
children before their marriage: Joseph; Susanne, who first married
Jacques Barrois and then Joseph Cleremont ; and Marguerite, born in
1739, married July 1, 1754 to Charles Quesnel, died in June, 1758.
Jean Baptiste married a second time, in the late summer of 1748, to
Domitilla Rollet.
The Joseph Baron of this census was probably the Joseph who was
captain of the militia at Ste. Genevieve. On February 26, 1759,
Andre(pere) Deguire dit LaRose married Joseph's widow. (Yealy, Ste.
Genevieve, 31).
Again in Belting, p. 45, she sites the Kaskaskia Mss., Private Papers,
V to use the inventoried estate of Marie Catherine Baron, who died in
July, 1748, to illustrate the household goods of a colonist.
The only child of Joseph and Marie Bossier I have been able to find
was Celeste, Cecile Baron, who married Jean Baptiste LaRose(Deguire
dit) February 5, 1760 at Ste. Genevieve (StLGS Vol.18, p.39). They
in turn had at least two children: Jean Baptiste(Marie Roi); and
Susanne(Joseph LaLumundiere). These children were also married at
Ste. Genevieve.
Joseph Baron and Marie Bossier could not have been married in Ste.
Genevieve in the year sited because Ste. Genevieve did not exist as a
recognized community at that time. The marriage of Andre Deguire to
Joseph's widow is listed in StLGS Vol.18, p.39 taking place as simply
in 1759 and her name is give as Bossier, widow of Joseph Baron. Andre
himself would have been a widower as he was married to the widow
Elisabeth Brunet dit Bourbonnois in June of 1729 at Kaskaskia. The
Jean Baptiste Deguire(Cecile Baron) was a son of Andre and Elisabeth.
He married his new step-sister.
If I can be of any further assistance please ask. Jay Shinkle
