Subject: Eldage and Eldred?

My grandfather was named Emile "Meo" Eldage DuLong. I am wondering if
Eldage is French for Eldred. Several other people in the family were
named Eldred. Is Eldage a French name? What is its English
equivalent? By the way, he was born in 1870 in Michigan's Copper
Country, the child of immigrants from St-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Québec.
Thanks.
