Mallet, Malette (with as many l's and t's as one can think of), Maillet,
Maillette anf sometimes even Maguet have puzzled more than one genealogist.
Actually, when I started the Thibodeau-Mallet thread I was looking (still
am) for the origin of Ursule Thibodeau, not Jean-Baptiste Mallet who I have
traced rather easily to Pierre Mallet and Marie-Anne Hardy, from 1662
Montreal. But "Ursule Thibodeau", that's another "paire de manche", another
set of sleves, as we say "
