11th President of the United States. Underrated by many historians, this is
among the best biographies of his life. He contributed much to a young
nation during his term in office-1845-1849. He settled the Oregon question,
waged a successful war with Mexico and acquired a vast amount of territory,
including California. This volume includes correspondence when he served in
the TN General Assembly. Letters to and from Andrew Jackson, Sam Houston,
David Crockett, his family and others. He served as executor of his
father's complicated estate and those of 3 younger brothers, all of whom,
tragically, died in 1831. Family history. A project of the TN Historical
