Subject: 1990 SURNAME DIRECTORY FOR POLAND
Date: 01 Nov 1999 12:31:39 GMT

Slownik nazwisk wspolczesnie w Polsce uzywanych [Dictionary of Surnames in
Current Use in Poland] (commonly referred to as the "Surname Directory"),
editor Professor Kazimierz Rymut of Krakow (1992-1994). This ten volume set of
reference books lists every surname found in Poland as of 1990. About 608,000
surnames are recorded (discounting the listings for zeros). Each listing
records the total
number of people with a particular surname in
Poland and breaks down that total among the 49 provinces which were in use at
that time. The nation of Poland is about the same size as the State of New
Mexico in the USA. One of the 49 provinces, as listed in the Surname Directory,
is approximately equivalent in size to a county in the USA. No given names or
addresses are recorded. No further information is provided. The information was
compiled from a Polish government agency similar to the United
States Social Security Administration. I am willing to look up surnames for
researchers (including variant spellings) and provide copies of those pages in
which their surnames appear for a nominal fee of $10.00 USD per surname in
order to cover the cost of photocopies, envelopes and postage. Please mail all
requests and checks payable to the following address: Keith Kaszubik, 287
Buffalo St. #2, Hamburg, NY 14075-5149 USA. For further information
