Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2000 11:20:41 EDT

A PORTFOLIO: SOUTHERN ILLINOIS COAL. (c) 1995 Southern Illinois University
Press. Hardback. The coal mining photographs of C. William Horrell, taken
across the So.ILL. Coal Belt over a 20 year period from 1966-1986.
Extraordinary examples of documentary photography, stark and striking--coal
mines & coal miners working underground and on top, groups, machinery at the
face. Some coal seams averaged 6-8 ft. in height, "scratchback" mines with
coal seams no thicker than 5 ft. created hazardous, claustrophobic, adverse
working conditions for the men. Pictorial dustjacket has a miner blackened
with coal dust in bib overalls. 108 large pages, 11 1/2" x 12". $35 postpaid.

COALMINERS' UMWA CONSTITUTION, 1979. The Constitution of the International
Union, United Mine Workers of America, Adopted at Denver, Colo. Dec. 10-19,
1979. 3 3/4 " x 8". Map of U.S. and Alaska showing all types of coal fields
deposits, list of district offices, 113 pages, soft cover has some soil. Good
tight copy.
