Date: Mon, 04 Feb 2002 06:24:03 -0500
Among the genealogy and history books and CDs at http://www.essexbooks.com
CD -The ESSEX GENEALOGIST VOL. 1 & 2
by the Essex Society of Genealogists, Inc.
The two volumes on this CD-ROM include:
The Essex Genealogist Volume 1, 1981 - This book collects into one volume
all the society's quarterly journals for 1981. Recurring highlights of the
journals include the "TEG Feature Article," "It Happened in Essex County"
(local history), "Crest and Shield" (heraldry information), "Tools of the
Trade" (advice on genealogical resources), "The Ahnentafel" (family
generational charts), "Research in Progress," "Ask TEG," "Society News,"
and "Genealogical Queries." While there is enough general information and
advice to make this book valuable to anyone interested in genealogy, those
with genealogical interest specific to Essex County, Massachusetts, could
not hope for a better resource. Family names featured in this volume
include Chadwell, Kelley, Everitt, Dearborn, Wilson (Wiswall),
Graham-Vedoe, Hillman, Reed, Ramsdell, McIntosh, Eaton, and Gray. An index
is included.
The Essex Genealogist Volume 2, 1982 - In this volume: Feature Articles:
"Inhabitants of the Saugus Iron Works," "Urban Research," "Lynn's Free
Burying Ground," "Between Two World Wars." Crest and Shield: Dodge, Dudley,
Eaton, Emerson, Fletcher, Foster, French, Frost, Gould, Greene, hart,
Hutchinson, Hill, Ingalls. Research in Progress: Doliber/Dolliver, Randall
Elizabeth Phippen, John Smith of Barnstable. Other family names featured in
the volume: Rantoul, Storey, Wilson, Coddington, Putnam, Tilley.
These books are presented as graphic images, so the user sees the works
just as they were originally published. They are intended to look and
function very much like "real" books. This is accomplished using the
powerful Adobe Acrobat reader which is provided free on the CD for Windows
and Macintosh systems. This CD has no electronic indexes, but the volumes
have a complete, human-generated, index to people and places. In addition,
numerous electronic bookmarks have been added which make it easy to move
through the books, and from book to book. This CD is best viewed with
monitor resolution 800x600 or higher.
