South Carolina, A Synoptic History for Laymen, Lewis P. Jones, 1971. Soft cover, stated first edition, 6x9-1/4, 272 pages, reading list, everyname index, illustrations, maps galore. The pages of the book are in great condition, but the outside edges of the closed pages and the white covers have some yellowing from exposure and time & there are four small perfectly circular yellow spots on the cover. The binding is tight, the pages are flexible with no loose pages, and there are no markings of any kind in the book. The synopsis of South Carolina's history is very well stated in an easily readible and enjoyable form. This book is "the compilation of 21 incisive articles by Dr. Jones which appeared in 'Sandlapper - The Magazine of South Carolina' from January 1969-September 1970....The author has performed the seemingly impossible task of presenting a complete narrative without bogging down in details. An informal history designed for the casual reader...tells the colorful stor!
y of South Carolina in a lively and readable fashion."Contents include:
