Subject: [DNA] Off-Topic ?

Hello All,

<<Referring to item 2 in your welcome message, I now declare this thread to
be
in the "extended" phase:>>

I realize that there appears to be a growing schism on this topic and it is
not my intent to add fuel to the fire. However, IMHO, one of the the best
things about this List was that it was not too restrictive, allowed Listers
the ability to discuss new DNA "newsbreaks" as related to Genealogy, and
maintained a flexibility of discussion on topics which had the capacity to
greatly influence Genealogy. If a Genealogically influential topic is deemed
irrelevant or "extended" then I am at a loss to see just what *is* relevant.
I believe we have all been attempting to "Keep [our] messages relevant to
genealogy."

<<2) Keep your messages relevant to genealogy. DNA
testing has many other applications in medicine,
archaeology, and forensics, to name just a few
disciplines. However, there are other newsgroups
and mailing lists for these topics, and
subscribers may be encouraged to move extended
discussions off-list.
Anyone interested in pursuing this topic may do so in private e-mail or on a
newsgroup at dejanews.com, where several threads have sprung up about "Mungo
Man.">>

With the understanding that there is probably a "specialty" List for
everything and
that we certainly have the ability to subscribe to them, I do want to go on
record as saying that there are just "so many" Lists a person can belong to
and still be interactive and productive. Having to choose between reading all
your Genealogy mail and answering someone's request for a Lookup is a result
of being overwhelmed with too many Lists.

Please direct any comments on the above to me
not to the List, as they will obviously, not be considered "relevant".

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Linda Warrick Chesson
California
