I should clarify that I don't mean to squelch general discussions which might
be of interest to anyone -- but lists devoted to a particular surname are
more appropriate when the messages veer toward specific points of
genealogical data (e.g. whether one historical source is more reliable than
another). The Wingfield thread was a case in point, and I approve of the way
it was handled. The DNA data was presented with some historical context,
enough to explain the hypothesis. We can then give our opinions about whether
the DNA results do or do not support the hypothesis, but weighing the
genealogical evidence belongs on the Wingfield list.
