Ann,

When I first read that I understood it to mean a two step mutation occurs 1
out of 14 transmission events. However, the exact meaning was not important
to me at the time you wrote it. But when my cousin's 12 marker test differed
from mine by 2 at DYS 388 the exact meaning of 1/14 became very important to
me.

That seems like a high mutation rate since there are also someone step
mutations between fathers and sons. I really need to understand what it means
in my case. My cousin and I know our great-great grandmother had two sons. My
cousin is descended from the oldest son and I'm descended from the younger
one. We were hoping to prove that both boys had the same father. Just when I
thought I understood what was going on some confusing data comes up. Any help
appreciated.
