Hi Kay,
I too did many of the things you suggested in your email, but I too have only
enlisted 6 participants in my Lawrence/Lorentz DNA study which I started on
June 26th of this year. Since my own Lawrence ancestors were originally
Lorentz from Germany over 250 years ago, and our family had for generations
thought ourselves English Lawrence descendants, including those who broke
away 160 years ago, I thought it best to make it a multi nationality study in
order to extricate present day descendants from each other.
Your email made me feel less miserable at what I think an extremely poor
response considering there are so many men in America named Lawrence and/or
Lorentz. For all the popularity of the name Lawrence, Martin has to be many
times more so. So thank you for that Kay. But ours too is an ongoing project
that I hope will eventually include dozens of people who have done much or
little in the way of family genealogy. They may be able to add to the wealth
of information already available in paper genealogies on so many families
named Lawrence or Lorentz, primarily in the U.S. but hopefully in Britain and
various Germanic countries as well. So I invite anyone with a
Lawrence/Lorentz surname, or who has a friend, or knows someone with those
names, to let them know about our project and to have them contact me for
further information. We, like many other groups are using Family Tree DNA and
qualify for the group discount. All of our participants so far have opted for
the 25 marker test and we should have results back within the next week or so
on our Phase One tests. At that time I'll attempt to make some sense of them
and post them to this list if no one minds.
I have neither a technical or science background but I have been credited
with common sense by some outside institutions, and I hope that I'm able to
present them with some kind of alacrity and insight while at the same time
sidestepping any type of indepth scientific questions and comments. (I have
the feeling I should be adhering to Abe Lincoln's warning to fools.)
Thanks to all the regular contributors to this list. Even I've learned a few
things and hope to be able to use this wonderful technology to further this
strange desire of mine to learn as much as possible about my dead ancestors.
