A DNA project for the names of Vines, Vine, Viner and Viney
has commenced with 4 Vines and 2 Vine participants signed
up. A major search for participants world wide will start
shortly. A functional website is established to record test
results, the first of which are due about end of March.

Does anyone have experience of research in France? Do they
have mailing lists like Rootsweb? I would very much like to
involve people with the surname of Vigne or similar in
France to test the hypothesis of name experts that these are
associated in origin. As the distribution of the Vine name
in the 1881 England census was strongly along the English
Channel counties it suggests that this name came across from
France, so it is logical to compare the DNA of Vine in
England with that of descendants of those Vignes who stayed
home in 1066.
Are there on-line census facilities in France?
