This speech by Pat Elder is an interesting one on the genealogical approach
to solving problems. If the Melungeon DNA researchers would use a
genealogical approach instead of a population genetics approach, they would
probably come up with some answers to the questions about the origins of the
Melungeons.

Her point about the hunters in the area is particularly noteworthy. It is
hard to believe that the Longhunters who operated from this area in the 1760s
and 1770s would not have noticed such a settlement.
