There is one more difference between the boards (mailing lists) that I would like to add. The Rootsweb list has been in existence since 1996. You do not have to be a member to research the archives. You can go here:
http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
And enter Melungeon (or the name of any other Rootsweb list for which you want access to the archives), then on the next page you can search by year, entering any keyword(s) you wish. This is an invaluable resource that I am so thankful Rootsweb furnishes.
The other list mentioned, is a few months old and does not furnish a publicly accessed archive.

Sometimes this can be productive, but often not. Today I accessed all the sites you mentioned and many more - each of which has links to numerous other sites. I can see how one could easily make the study of the Melungeons a lifetime's work.

I would also like to add my mother in law's information (both mtDNA and DNAPrint, when available) to any suitable site(s) since the DNA and genealogical evidence suggests rather strongly that she is from "classic" Melungeon stock.
