David,
I received my Print DNA test results from FamilyTreeDNA today also. My
results were reported as: European 79%, East-Asian 21%, and
Native-American 0%. I was surprised at the magnitude of the East-Asian
figure since my historical genealogical research indicates no such
heritage. The ancestry was thought to be virtually all German, Swiss,
French Huguenot, and possibly some English Quaker blood. It must be the
result of some pre-surname invasion or migration of east asian people's
from the East-Asian areas into the European areas. I wonder if there is
a particular area of Europe which has a high percentage of East-Asian
ancestry in their genome.
On a different note, the report from FamilyTreeDNA was silent on
African/Sub-Saharan content. It was my understanding from the
description of the Print DNA test that the percentage of all 4
population groups would be reported. Since my percentages for the 3
population groups reported added up to be 100% one can assume that my
African results were 0% also. But I think that number should have been
reported explicitly as such in the data table on FTDNA's website. I have
emailed FamilyTreeDNA this question as to why only 3 population groups
were reported in the data table when the write up in their Print DNA
description, and the online manual for the version 2.0 test, states it
looks at one's ancestry for all 4 population groups, i.e.,
Indo-European, East-Asian, African/Sub-Saharan, and Native American. I
know the Triangle Plot can only handle 3 variables. But the data table
should display all 4 results even if one or more are zero. I will await
an explanation from FTDNA.
