Subject: [DNA] O Y chromosomes are found in Mongolia also among the Avars
Date: Sun, 30 Nov 2003 22:51:51 -0800

O y chromosomes are found at a high rate in Mongolia and Central Asia, and N
in SW Siberia and Finland. I wouldn't be surprised if the Avars, a tribe
that left Mongolia and settled in W. Europe in the 9th century might also
have settled in Italy in medieval times, especially when the trade between
Venice and Turkey was fashionable in Renaissance Italy. It could go back to
the 4th century Huns from Mongolia who settled in Italy during the fall of
Rome. Didn't Atila's son stay in Italy? He would have come from the
Korean/Chinese/Mongolian lands. In any case, the O Y chromosome is very
ancient. Thin Avar tribe in W. Europe, perhaps, or Marco Polo's return with
Chinese musicians and artists. You never know. There always was that silk
road link from China to Rome for years.
