Hello,
AHSGR Convention News
There were some good speakers. Erica Neumann told us of her family
history. Her family emigrated from Russia to China then to Brazil. A
great story. I later had breakfast with her. I met and had breakfast
with an AHSGR staff person, Luis Vasquez. We talked a bit about placing
photos of the collection of paintings at Lincoln onto the web so
everyone can view them. I learned something about the SOAR project. I
met with my village coordinator for Warenberg, Ron Brott, who traveled
to Russia in 1995. I met with and talked to Shirley (Wegner) Nitschke
who recently authored a GR novel about emigrants to Russia than to the
US. Its title is Heimat: Steppes of Russia: My Country, My Home. I am
reading it now. Brent Mai gave a talk on the Origins of the Volga
Germans, I think this is a book. I was also able to look at many of the
books that AHSGR offers in the bookstore. Pleve's 2nd book is avialable
through AHSGR. The genealogy workshop was also helpful to me.
I met with the people who were on Gary Reifschneider Tour of Germany in
'01. We had some great fun together.
Overall, the convention was a good one.
