Subject: [GV] what all this ? church Exams before Marriage
Date: Tue, 9 Jul 2002 14:53:26 Africa/Johannesburg

Dear Gene,

he are getting closer.
All I want to know is that when I translate the Russian Archive lists
into English - what do I type in for "before Marriage Exams"
column - do I type in "Pre Cana Lists" ?
The Russian Orthodox church has the same, but not all priests
are equally strict.

I had a case where a German Male Lutheran wanted to marry
his Russian female (non-baptisted) catalogue-fiancee in a Russian
Orthodox church in South Africa -
the (US-Polish Orthodox) priest said that they must come in for
"classes" for 6 weeks before wedding and it can't be during Lent,
then take "exams", and if he is satisfied with their knowledge of
? cataclism ? and the "faith", then he will marry them.

But the German Lutheran victar didn't mind marrying them as is -
they chose to marry in the less fussy Lutheran church.
Paid "money" and got their wedding.

So = Big difference ?
whre is HORST GUTSCHE - PLEASE explain.

I'd like this subject clarified for me.

Vera
