My view of the Convention:
John Groh & family plus the new Iowa Wild Rose Chapter of AHSGR did a
marvelous job of providing a trouble-free convention. If there were wrinkles
in the fabric of the organization behind a successful convention, we did not
see any. Thanks John.
Highlights:
Visiting with a lot of friendly acquaintances--both old & new.
Directly overhead fireworks on the Des Moines River for the 4th of July.
We had crunched necks from watching--but it was beautiful.
The continuous showing of the 1927 Norka film which is being produced by
AHSGR for sale (as video & DVD) for the 34th convention w/narration &
background music. It depicts how the villagers lived at that period in
history. It was taken by a GR who was visiting the colony. He managed to
arrive during thrashing time. My, those women sure knew how to thrash the
wheat.
The SOAR project, thus far, was displayed on two computers for those who were
able to wait for a turn. They could have used more computers to display
that marvelous project of GR info.
Low point--no one submitted a story before the deadline for the "Story
Telling Contest." However, the committee came up with a winner idea to fill
the allotted time slot by allowing those in attendance to get up and tell
their own stories. So, come on you slackers get those stories into the
committee on time. Start writing those stories for next year NOW & try to
remember that there is a deadline.
