Hello Everyone,

I received a copy of James Henry GUMMERYs D.C.M. citation from the London
Gazette this morning. It says:-

p3046 Supplement to the London Gazette, 11 March 1920
W/1434 Gnr. J.H. Gummery, R.F.A., attd. Y/38th T.M. By. (near Ledbury)
For consistent gallantry and steadiness under fire during this last advance
when acting as No.1 of a medium trench mortar detachment. At Engelfontaine
on 4th November 1918 he volunteered and carried orders to a detached gun
through heavy enemy barrage, and then returned in order to fire a mortar,
the detachment of which had become casualties.
-------------------------------------
I've located Engelfontaine on the map - about 20 kms east of Cambrai. This
action happened just a few days before the Armistice. Does anyone know what
was going on in Engelfontaine at the time?

Thanks to you all.

Best regards,
Linda Hansen
