Hi All,
I'm planning a trip to the PRO Kew, to get information on my
wives grandfather. He lived in Dunoon and I understand he was a
territorial in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders before the war.
According to Ian Kerr (what would we do without him) this would be the
1/8th Battalion and was mobilised at the start of the war. He was then
transfer to the Engineers, I suspect due to his age. He was 35 yrs, married
with 4 children and spent the war either at Deal or Dover. Since he
survived the war, never went abroad and I don't know his number, other than
the "burnt" records, has anybody any suggestions as to where else I can
look? Any tips on accessing WW1 records at the PRO would be appreciated as
it's many years since my last visit and then it was to find a sailor.
