Alan,
I went there a few months ago having never visited, I was truly amazed. You should
have no problem everything is labelled, there are useful hints and notes on
everything and I found a piece of A4 paper describing almost every record
possible.
The staff there are extremely knowledgable and helpful. They dont mind being asked
questions, in fact one young lady told me she wished the customers would ask more.
She felt a lot of us went home with out using Kew to its full advantage.
As you go in the door to the search room, the files which may be off most use to
you are just on the far right by the table with the numbered boxes on for fiche
/film readers. The first set of shelves by these tables and the batch next to
them. There are also many other indexes available.
As an after thought if you are travelling by train it took me almost an hour to
get from the centre of London to Kew on the train.
take care
Sharon.
