Dave,
I believe that the battalion remained in Egypt and on operations in 1917
and 1918 in Palestine.
The 4th Battalion, The Northamptonshire Regiment (Territorial Force) owed
its origins to the 1st Admin Battalion of the Northampton Rifle Volunteers
was formed in 1860. With the outbreak of war and to cope with the mass of
volunteers, the 4th Battalion, in common with other territorial units,
split itself into two, and then three, lines named the 1/4th, 2/4th and
3/4th Battalions respectively.
The 1/4th Battalion, The Northamptonshire Regiment (Territorial Force) was
mobilised at Clare Street, Northampton on 4 Aug 1914 and was assigned to
the East Midland Brigade in the East Anglian Division. In Aug 1914 the
battalion moved to Bury St Edmunds. In May 1915, the formations became
162nd Brigade and 54th (East Anglian) Division and moved to the St Albans
area. In Jul 1915 the battalion embarked for the Dardanelles, via Lemnos,
arriving at Suvla bay on 15 Aug 1915. The battalion was withdrawn from
Gallipoli in Dec 1915 and moved to Egypt. The 1/4th Battalion ended the
war in the same formations on 31 Oct 1918 at Beirut, Palestine.
