Subject: [WW1] "Burnt Record" Has two numbers

Dear All

After searching for my Grandfather's details I found one paper amongst the
"burnt records". It stated his name Hanson Whittaker : Corps. R.E. spr. W/R
323842 on the line underneath corps it has : do. spr. 303011. Does this
mean he was issued with two numbers or was he posted to another
establishment and given a new number? My grandfather never had an overseas
posting. Unfortunately there were no other papers appertaining to him.
