Hello List Members,

My husband's Uncle was killed on October 7 1916, on the war graves site
it listed his Regiment as follows Warlencourt British Cemetery Pas de
Calais France

8th Bn, London Regt(Post Office Rifles)

Rifleman Frederick Waistell TURNBULL #5827
Age 25
wife address 18 Victoria Rd Gateshead England

I have a copy of a letter written in Salisburgh May 18 1916, one
somewhere over seas August 18 1916, and a postcard August 18 1916, then
no other mail came home.

I would like to know
when and where he joined, I know he was from Gateshead. Why the London
Regiment?
Also was he a Postman before he joined?

Where he did his tour of duty before he was killed. Was this the battle
of the Somme?

Is this available to us?

Kind regards, Mary from Surrey BC Canada
