I'm currently writing a short piece on a

Ernest SHORT Private 8006 1st Bn., Devonshire Regiment
who died on Saturday, 24th October 1914.

In his former employment Ernest was a Metropolitan Police Officer.

Can anyone tell me where the 1st Bn would have been on October 24th 1914.
