Hi Everyone,
I have just joined the list, so hello all. I wonder whether anyone out there may be of help to me.
I have an ancestor, James Sewell, who died on Monday 24th September 1917. He is buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground, Zillebeke, Ypres. He was a gunner in 'C' Battery, of the unit above.
I am interested to find out two things:
More about his unit, its equipment, training regime, recruiting area, and UK bases, and,
The events immediately before and on 24th September upon which the 102nd Bde. may have been employed. It has been suggested to me that since his entry on the CWGC site says 'died on' rather than 'killed on' that he may have died from previously inflicted wounds or disease, and not directly from the effects of battle.
I have done some searching on the Internet but so far have not found anything specific. Any leads would be most welcome.
Best Wishes
Andy
