Tom,
Hey after 25 years in the army I am with you on this, if it sails or
flies I do not know too much myself, only know about U Boats due to my
own research re UC 22.

Don't know if this helps re hull types or the problem with silhouette
books, but from the way I understand it the UC II Class covers boats UC
16 - 79. They were built in block in series and of the same type per
block, there could be a slight change or variant from block to block as
modifications and as time passed or the role for which the boat was
built and designed may change.

So for example the first block of UC is 16-24, the next block being
25-33 may be a modified upgrade of block 16-24 and more importantly
there may be slight changes within the block itself, so there may slight
changes for example between boats 25-33 in the same block.

>From what I have found out so far and this is where your boat UC 63
comes in, is the blocks for the UC II Class boat numbers are as follows:

16-24, 25-33, 34-39, 40-45, 46-48, 49-54, 55-60, 61-64, 65-73, 74-79,

All built as UC Class II and all built in series, HOWEVER it seems Boat
Numbers UC 62, 63, and 64 were built in the same series as boats UC
11-15, now boats UC 11-15 were UC Class I Boats. So for some reason
three boats were built in the same series as a preceding class.

Another thought about the problem you mention re silhouettes, if you
mean the pictures you have are UC 48 and 52 as mentioned is they were
both built (as was UC 63) in 1916 and if the silhouette book is 1917
there may be some changes in variants.

Sorry if its all a little vague and rambling. I have a friend (that's
dispelled a few rumours then) who may be able to help with more
information or if not he in turn may know someone, as soon as I hear
anything I will let you know. Sorry do not know of any other site re U
Boats WW1 apart from the one mentioned, maybe some other lister may.

Regards.
Peter.
