Hello listers

Firstly thank you to all those wonderful people who have helped me with my GUncle Ernest Hamilton. I would like to share with others what I discovered while researching. I am hoping this will help others.

I always presumed that my Grandfather Sidney Glen Wood and his brother Alfred Percival (from Plaistow, Essex) were with the British army until I made enquiries with a military historian here in Australian in regard to my fathers side of the family who were with the Australian forces and mentioned my Grandfather went to Galipolli and France.

It turned out he was with the 28th Battalion and enlisted in Australia. After receiving their military information I contacted the Australian War Memorial (awm) http://www.awm.gov.au. They have online databases - to my surprise I found 2 photographs - one of my grandfather watching a game of two up in the fields of France and the other photo was the whole 28th Battalion which also included his brother. I was overcome, how wonderful, if only he had been here today to see it. My grandfather never spoke of the war, his brother being awarded the MM.

The AWM are so very helpful and only pleased to assist. I hope this information may be able to bring joy to someone else.

Regards
Trudy
