Hi
I am new to this list and have a couple questions I would like to ask.
As far as I know I had five ancestors who served in the Great War, only one
of them survived. He was my grandfather John William Hilton, he served with
the Seaforth Highlanders in Mesopotamia. The family story says he was in a
field hospital with Malaria at the time of the battle at Sannaiyat, on 22 Feb
1917. It was during this battle that his brother (my great uncle) was killed,
he was Harold Hilton D company 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders.
I know everything re Harold is correct, and I know the 1st Batt were fighting
at Sannaiyat on that day. Is there anyway I can confirm the story re John?
Also I have read the book by AJ Barker, Mesopotamia The Forgotten War, but
are there any other books still in print dealing with the campaign in
Mesopotamia?
Regards
Gordon Davidson.
