John,
I had also noticed the Hancock name wondering if it could be related to Josiah. It seems too much of a coicidence. I keep saying I'm going to dig into the Hancocks of Lancaster Co and check this out.....(among other diggings).
I have so many of the Lancaster/Kershaw Co names intertwined into my Shute family, many of which are also in the Rape family. The more I researched, the same surnames kept coming up. Along with my Shute family, there were Funderburks, Plylers, etc, and other local names which also moved to MS about the same time.

Teresa, I was hoping to see you give this information. My first thought was that Janet probably did not realize what an easy task she was giving when she asked you to give the childen of Elizabeth Rape and Henry Shute. Although, I have listed many if not most of Catharine Rape Funderburk's children in my files, I had not even noticed the double cousins therein. This also gives me a good excuse to tell all of you something which I consider an unsolved mystery of the Rape family which also dips into my own direct line. My great-great grandfather was Archibald Rape, son of John Rape and Millie Forbes. Archibald was the oldest of their nine children. Archibald Rape left Mecklenburg (now Union) Co. NC during or before 1834 and went to Walton County, Georgia where he married Mary, a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Hancock. This Thomas Hancock is thus my great-great-great grandfather. I am not positive if he is the sam! e Thomas Hancock although I have always thought he was t!
he same as Thomas Hancock who at one time sold land to Peter Rape, my four greats grandfather, and also known as Johann Peter Reeb born in 1759 in Philadelphia. So when Archibald came to Walton County, GA and married Mary Hancock, who was born in SC I can't help but think he was going to where his girl friend's family had moved to. Archibald and Mary Rape had one son named Josiah Parks Rape, who married a woman named Nancy, and had no children with her. He died in Wood County, TX and a very tall tombstone marks his grave there with an inscription that it was erected by his wife Nancy. Josiah Parks Rape was named for his uncle, a brother of Mary Hancock Rape named Josiah Hancock. Thomas and Elizabeth Hancock also had other sons living in Walton County, GA. Before 1850 Archibald Rape and his Hancock inlaws lived in McLemore's Cove of Pigeon Mountain in Walke! r County where they had moved to from Walton County. Since he had a son named Josiah, I can't help but believe tha!
t Thomas Hancock was probably a son of Josiah Hancock. If that is tru
e, I find it kind of funny since, it would mean that my 4 greats grandmother was a sister to my 4 greats grandfather.

Hello Cousin Janet,
This is little more than you requested but there is another Rape connection in the next generation...
The only known child of Elizabeth Rape Shute and Henry Shute, Sr. is:

She was born Mar 2, 1800 in Chesterfield Co and died Jan 17, 1874 in Lancaster Co, and buried at Tabernacle Cemetery. She was the dtr of John Blakeney Jr. & Nancy 'Nannie' May both of Chesterfield Co.
After Henry Sr.'s death, Elizabeth Rape Shute married Josiah Hancock abt 1799-1800. Josiah died between Sept 1803-Jan 1804. Elizabeth died bet 1850-1860.

* Elihu is my direct ancestor.
** 2nd cousins - Melissa E. C. Funderburk is dtr of Abel L. Funderburk and Mary Laney. Abel Funderburk's parent's are David Funderburk and Catherine Rape....Catherine is dtr of Johann Peter Reeb & Anna Maria.
Nancy Funderburk is dtr of Henry Funderburk & Barbara Poer. Henry is son of Jacob Funderburk & Barbara Delaney. Jacob and David Funderburk were brothers, sons of Hans Devauld Funderburk. And to make things even more complicated, Hans Devauld Funderburk is also the father of Henry Funderburk, who was husband of Mary 'Polly' Rape, who is the dtr of Gustavus Rape, son of Johann Peter Reeb & Anna Maria.....
