Dear Cousins,
First, I just wanted to explain that my last post was not meant to sound as if I was nagging everyone about posting lineages etc. but as a welcome and request to Marianne Fotheringham, a new subscriber, to introduce herself and to tell us something about how she connects to this family.
At this time, also, I want to mention that although I am sure most of you did note that I had re-opened the GUS-REEB list because I would like to see more discussion between all of the Reebs whose ancestry can be traced back to the Nassau-Saarwerden area which includes not only the descendants of Gustavus Reeb but also descendants of Heinrich Reeb, baptized in July 1699 in Herbitzheim, son of a Jacob Reeb. This Heinrich Reeb lived in the small and rustic old village of Bissert at least as early as 1730 and moved to Keskastel soon after the end of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). DNA analysis does indeed indicate that descendants of Jacob Reeb's sons Heinrich and Michael Reeb do share common ancestry with the descendants of Gustavus Reeb. In fact after some time of trying to decide a name for a Reeb list which could focus primarily on the Reebs desciribed above in this paragraph, I thought it would be easier just to adopt this list which we had all discontinued usage two or!

years ago. So in some respects the name of GUS-REEB may seem misleading. With this all in mind, I would like to also ask Richard Rapp, who does trace his ancestry back in time to Jacob Reeb, and to his son, Heinrich who was baptized in Herbitzheim in July 1599. For those of us who do trace our ancestry to Gustavus Reeb, understand that our Gustavus was a great grandson of another Heinrich Reeb, also a resident in Herbitzheim, and whose wife was named as godmother in the baptismal record of Heinrich, son of Jacob. I hope that all of you will excuse my poor writing skills and I hope that my message here is understood. When I hear the questions sometimes posed as "what is the relationship between the descendants of Gustavus Reeb and the descendants of Heinrich Reeb, all I can say for certain at this time is that documentation available to us at this time does not give us a specific answer, however, it must have been very close since the members of the two branches of the Reeb!
family
mentioned here were named as godparents for each others families for at least four generations beginning in 1599. Herbitzheim was not a large city but only a village in 1599, so it is unlikely, in my opinion that Jacob and Heinrich would not have been closely related...if not brothers, surely first cousins.
Richard, please feel free to also introduce yourself to the list.
John V. Reeb
