John you caught my error! I did mean to say Henry R. Rape not John as a
brother of Archibald. Sorry about that, I am glad you corrected that. Henry
R. Rape was born in 1830 not 1835. As you once told me, the 1835 was to late
for his birth because of the date of his mothers death. We have the bible
page on which Mary Jane Howell Rape had written the names, dates of birth,
deaths and marriages. For her husband Henry R. Rape's date of birth, she
had written July 19, 183_ the last number was faded with only a tale showing
as if it were the top of a 5. We looked with a high powered magnifying glass
after you told me that 35 was to late, and we could see the ink had faded
but traces of the number 0 are there. Also looking elsewhere on the page
Mary Rape had written that she and Henry R. Rape had married on Dec 23,
1860. That zero is very clear and has a tale on the top. It was her writing
style that had made me think that the number was a 5 but in fact it is a 0.

> I just wanted to remind Aileen because I am sure she knows but actually my
great great Grandfather, Archibald Rape, and Aileen's great grandfather,
Henry R. Rape were brothers. Their father was John Rape, born in Lancaster
County, SC about 1790/1791 was son of Johann Peter Reeb born 1759 in
Philadelphia and became known in NC as Peter Rape. John Rape is known in
Union County, NC where a bronz plaque shows him as the contractor who bid to
construct a wooden arbor 60 by 150 feet for use of the Methodists in the
area near Mineral Springs, NC to hold services during two weeks in the
summer during a time out from the crops etc. The arbor was built in 1830 and
with a couple of short periods of being not used it does continue to be used
this day. The arbor is in the center of the Pleasant Grove Camp grounds
which contain besides the arbor the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church and
small one or two room cabins which are owned by members of the church who
stay in these cabins during th!

first wife was Millie Forbes, daughter of Hugh Forbes, a son of a William
Forbes who I believe was an immigrant from Scotland and who settled in
Guilford County, NC. Hugh Forbes was married to Mary McCorkle, a daughter of
John McCorkle. Hugh Forbes is buried in the Waxhaw, Union County County
cemetery which is commonly known as the Roundtop Baptist Church Cemetery.
Hugh Forbes was a soldier during the American Revolution and his grave is
marked as such. John Rape and Millie Forbes Rape had 9 children of whom
Archibald was the eldest born in 1810 and Henry R. the youngest born 1835?
At some times after Millie Forbes Rape's death John Rape married Mary
Osborne and had 4 or 5 children. Then not too long before 1850, John was
with a third wife, I believe her name was Martha and they had a young
daughter Mary Jane Rape born in 1850. Just to compare relationships, let me
say that John Rape was a first nephew !

Gustavus Rape. John was a first cousin once-removed to Henry Reeb/Reb,
Harlan's ancestor who was the son of Johann Michael Reeb. Henry Reeb/Reb was
first cousin to John's father Johann Peter (Reeb) Rape b. 1759 and Gustavus
(Reeb) Rape b. 1762. John was a first cousin to Peter, son of Gustavus Rape;
to Polly (Rape) Funderburk, daughter of Gustavus Rape.
