Dennis, good to read your introduction...although you are one of the few people here who I have met face to face and enjoyed a Japanese dinner with. I should have already sent you some of the data, at least the lineage of the Friedrich Reeb who settled in Walworth County, Wisconsin. I will do that soon, I promise.
Also, I need to explain that this is my third attempt to respond to your post since each time for some reason each time I typed the names Ormingen and Voller and attempted to type the code which places the umlaut over the o, just hitting the alt key and the appropriate message simply deleted my work. I did want to explain to others here that although your Reeb named ancestors may be 8 generations back the two families did have many connections. Also, I must say that I enjoyed working with the Voller part of the Reeb family history for many reasons. In the first place I felt lucky that we were able to find that even though the Lutherans were not allowed to have their church in 1694 when Maria Catharina Reeb was born, she was baptized in the Catholic church and so we do have her baptismal record which happened 3 Dec 1694. We also have complete dates of her three marriages, the second of which was to Marx Voller of Oermingen. We found the baptismal records of her three children!
of her
first husband, Johann Martin Bauer, and also of five children of Marx Voller.
Besides Dennis's Voller family who settled in Wisconsin, another branch of the Voller family immigrated to Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. Prior to my learning of the branch which settled in Wisconsin, I had heard from at least three different descendants of the branch in Ohio. I should say too that both these branches did not immigrate at the same time and both branches had more than one emigration from Keskastel. For example, Dennis correct me if I am wrong, but Jacob, who was your great grandfather did not immigrate until after your grandfather had been in Wisconsin for some years. Also, in Ohio, I believe that the parents of the family and maybe one son had emigrated and the other son had planned to follow. However, close to the scheduled date of his departure from Keskastel, he had to travel a distance from Keskastel for business purposes. When the date arrived, his wife thought he had gone on to the U.S. and she then packed up her children and emigrated... her husban!
d then
arrived later. One descendant of the Ohio branch is a member of the RFA, and I had hoped to invite her to join but her e-mail address evidently has changed.
One other interesting aspect of the Reeb - Voeller family history which I enjoyed the pursuit of and yet still have not found the complete story is this. Anna Elisabetha, the oldest daughter of Maria Catharina Reeb and Marx Voller, married in 1747 to Simon Fischer, son of Johann Nicolaus Fischer and his wife, Anna Elisabetha Reeb. Anna Elisabetha Reeb was a cousin to Maria Catharina Reeb. I found documentation, I believe having to do with the estate settlement of the estate of one or both of the Fischer parents, that Simon Fischer had emigrated to Pennsylvania and then I found his name on the passenger manifest of the ship HERO which arrived Philaelphia 27 Oct 1764. Problem is Fischer is a much more common name in America than either Voeller or Reeb and in my experience one of the most difficult to work with to put together a family tree. Names like Simon, Jacob, George, and Christian Fischer or Fisher are not unique and they were all of an age which would render them decea!
sed by
the time of the 1850 census so it would be a wonder of wonders to find them. I just hope that somewhere one of their descendants is diligently seeking out their family history and that he/she will somehow make themselves known.

My name is Dennis Nichols, grandson of Jacob Voller who was a Reeb
descendant who came to Wisconsin from Keskastel in 1903. I have to go back
8 generations to find the Reeb surname, but what I lack in Reebness, I make
up for in Keskastelness :-)
I lived in Wisconsin all my life (until 2 years ago), having attended and
worked at the University of Wisconsin. After my retirement several years
ago, I re-activated my genealogy research that I had started 20 years ago.
It wasn't long before the long arm of John V. Reeb reached out and touched
me, providing a stunning amount of information on the Voller family. I had
the opportunity to visit John (and his favorite restaurant) in San
Francisco a few years ago. I now live in a motorhome full-time, allowing me
to be where it's warm in the winter and to make long summer stays in areas
of genealogical interest.
An interesting side-result of my research this summer has been the
development of a small Reeb tree in the Walworth County area of Wisconsin.
I've sent it off to John V in hopes he can connect it up.
My line from Reebs:
7GGP Johann Theobald REEB Anna Elisabetha WEISDANN
6GGP Maria Catherina REEB 1694-1748 Marx VLLER 1692-1734
5GGP Johannes VLLER 1723-1757 Anna Catherina MLLER 1715-?
4GGP Johann Georg VLLER 1756-1797 Anna Elisabetha OSWALD 1761-1834
3GGP Eva Margaretha VLLER 1788-1858 Johann Christian BURRI 1789-1858
2GGP Nicolaus BURY 1825-? Catharina DEUTSCH 1823-?

GP Jacob VOLLER Jr. 1881-1972 Lena WERTHMLLER 1885-1967
P Hattie VOLLER 1919-2003 Harland Mereness NICHOLS 1915-1998
me Dennis John NICHOLS 1942-
All generations from my GrandParents to 7GGP were born and/or lived in or
near Keskastel. You may note the absence of Gustavus Reeb, since I don't
descend from him. Actually, I don't even know the connection between my
Johann Theobald Reeb and Gustavus' line. Johann Theobald appears to be
about the same generation as Gustavus' father, Johann Peter. I'm expecting
to find, some day, a cousin relationship of some order between Johann
Theobald and Johann Peter - it could be as close as first cousin. Hmmm, if
that were true then John V. would be my 10th cousin, making him the most
distant cousin I've met.
I want to close by thanking John for all his help and to say that I look
forward to interesting exchanges with the rest of you.
