Zakopane itself was a village belonging to the Crown until King Michal
Korybut Wisniowiecki granted it an independent municipal charter. If by
"region" you mean the former province of Nowy Sacz, of which Zakopane
was a part, this is a relatively large region, which includes
picturesque castles, manors and villas, of course formerly owned by the
nobility. In order to determine precisely who owned what in the region,
you would have to begin by consulting the Slownik geograficzny Krolestwa
Polskiego ("The Geographical Encyclopedia of the Kingdom of Poland"), as
well as other sources, on a village-by-village, town-by-town basis. The
Internet often has very thorough websites (in Polish) containing the
histories of some relatively small villages and towns.
