Thank you Klaus.

It is probably hopeless for me try to tie the Speidels I know to any
historical family. My knowledge about their antecedents is simply to limited.

I have know "my" Speidels for many years. In private conversations they
spoke of how Polish they were and sounded almost regretful that their name
did not end in a "ski" of an "icz."

Today, I received a copy of electronic correspondence from a younger
representative of the family, who also was born in the Poznan area of
Poland, addressed to one of Poland's diplomats. The letter contained in
the signature part the "von Speidel." While I am wholly ignorant of what
makes a German name sound noble, except of course for the obvious "von, "
the sound of "Speidel" struck me as more appropriately belonging to a
farmer or a townsman family. However, since there have been barons von
Speidel, as you have taught me, I may have to revise my thinking and give
the Polish American Speidels the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you again,

Marek Lesniewski-Laas
