The frequent name Speidl is typical South-German/Austrian.
Speidl is rather a nickname than an occupational name, i.e. meaning a rough
person.
The later baronial Speidl/Speidel family is of Austrian(Steiermark/Styria)
origin.
Members of this family received arms in 1584 by Archduke Karl and some were
made noble in 1592, others in 1594, others made Austrian knights in1627,
Austrian barons in 1639 and those were immatriculated 1815 in Bavaria as
Freiherren.
This is a typical Austrian career of farmers entering nobility through
offices held in the Austrian government.
