Yes Peacocks do thrive in the same places as chickens and peasants....they
are all related you know.

I used to see them run lose in the winter on the way to work. Those birds
traveled a few miles to find food. There was a pea-fowl ranch about two miles
from this one intersection they seemed to frequent.

...........

I found a piece about George III of England- it seems after recovering from
one of his attacks (so-called "madness"), that he wrote a speech that ended in
the word "peacock." His advisors scratched their heads trying to figure out
what he was trying to say.

Of course since George was KING they weren't going to try and change him or
his speech. Instead they told him that "peacock is an excellent way to end a
sentence. However, that bird is only for kings. So you should only whisper
that part of your speak softly."

"By the peacock" is thought to have been in reference to the fact that the
bird's flesh was incorruptible well past that of most birds. They thought this
had some sacred meaning. So by the peacock was almost like swearing on the
BIBLE. The peacock was thought to have the power of resurrection.

In Greek and Egyptian mythology the peacock feathers were considered much
like the evil eye. They were all seeing. This stems from the myth of Argus
being turned into a peacock. Argus was a traitor to Osiris, since in Osiris'
absence, Argus locked Isis up in his castle and proclaimed himself king. Argus
was thought to have had spies everywhere before he was turned into a bird. :-)
After he became a peacock his many eyes (spy eyes) were placed into his
tail.
