The disbandment of the Henry County Genealogical Society should have little
or no effect on the IaGenWeb Project. They have never cooperated with us. A
few individuals in the area have contributed data over the years which has
been welcomed. I believe people in Henry County have occasionally responded
to the mailing list or the Message Boards and those are still intact and
available for use as always. Everyone can help by posting their gravestone
photos on http://iowagravestones.org or by posting obituaries on the Message
Boards.
One lady who did try to help with research in the past and had to stop
because of family needs. We have not had the HCGS address on the website for
some time.
Your coordinator will be 70 next month and quite frankly, I do feel a bit
elderly right now because of a persistent flu bug that doesn't want to leave
my house. Norma

Hope I'm not overstepping my bounds, but for what it's worth, I took
note of the following sentence in the subject msg.... "Many of the
members that did this work are <elderly> and a new generation has not
come forward." I'm a 72 yr 'elder', but surely don't feel 'elderly' <G>
I'm not criticizing, just making a point that we are all 'elders' to
anyone younger than we. So how about getting our young people interested
in preserving not only the past, but their own some-day past (happening
today).
I don't know how large Mt. Pleasant is or how many schools you have, but
perhaps that might be a start. I realize they mightn't have the
expertise to put it together. but maybe they could do some of the 'leg'
work. Also, at the same time learn about their heritage and how mistakes
of the past can be useful in preserving the future. Maybe if the 'kids'
get involved, might spark some parents to donate some time? Anyway, just
a thought that might be a start to help save your Society.
Altho' I've never been to Mt. Pleasant, I've always felt an obsession
because of a Grdmother I never knew. Now because of my research I can
close my eyes and envision her there.
Thanks for listening and for the help I've received from the list. I
hope it comes back to life. I wish you the best in keeping your Society
going.
Jacque
